Landing in Auckland after 36 hours en-route we showered and collapsed into bed before trying to stay up for the rest of the day. Firstly, we walked down to the ferry terminal and looked around. It was a busy place. Ferry boats were continuously coming and going to places near by, Auckland 006 shows the ferry terminal. People were bustling and busy and like London and Paris they didn’t always seem to have time for you. There was obviously are ferry rush hour!

Unusually our hotel had another hotel on top of it accessed by different lifts at ground level. Auckland Sky Tower image 034 shows the two hotels. Our hotel room also afforded us a good image of the Sky Tower. The tower is lit up in changing colours in the evening. It took quite a few attempts to get a decent image of the Tower at night, Auckland image 046 is the best one.

Venturing out on the hop-on hop-off bus tour, we visited Mount Eden, a massive volcanic crater. It is sacred to the Mouri people and never to be entered (Images Mount Eden 011 and 013). The views from the long climb to the top of the volcano are well worth it (Mount Eden 018 and 029)

Additionally, we visited Bastion Point and its gardens (Bastion Point 018 and 028). Subsequently and from the open top bus I managed to capture and image of two dormant volcanos on the Devonport Peninsular (Auckland 023)

Devonport itself was a ferry ride away and has some lovely buildings on its main street and a nice beach that curves round and allows you to look at Auckland from across the water (Devonport 014 and 030).

Last but not least we made a trip to the top of the Sky Tower. It also afforded great views of the city and harbour (Sky Tower 054 and 060)
