RHS Hyde Hall re-opens

RHS Hyde Hall re-opens with a display of lots of yellows and purples amongst the flowers. Today was the first day of opening after the lock down. There was a lovely purple bearded Iris with a human like face on its petals. Phlomis, the plant with yellow whirls in tiers like a wedding cake was abundant. The lavender was a really strong purple colour. Kniphofia, also called tritoma or red hot poker was yellow and orange, though just going over!

In the dry garden were some strong yellow Californian poppies. Moving up and round to the pond in the Hill Harden there were some bright yellow water lilies. Foxgloves (digitalis) were present in abundance. One of my images shows the patterns inside the foxglove petal.

The roses are colourful, though as the gardens have been shut we will not see them at their best now. Some areas obviously lack maintenance, but on the whole it was a real joy to be back in the gardens. I did miss the cup of tea though!
