Woodham Ferrers – Essex

Woodham Ferrers is a small village about 7½ miles southeast of Chelmsford in Essex, England. The village name is linked to the family of Robert I de Ferrers, 1st Earl of Derby (c. 1062 – 1139) the younger son Henry de Ferrières whose father, born in Ferrières, Normandy accompanied William the Conqueror on his invasion of England in 1066! In the 1980s a new town “South Woodham Ferrers” was built south of the original village. The images in the slideshow include:

  • Main road, where it is level but curvy. I did not appreciate that the road had curves until I looked at the image
  • The friendly horse , though I suspect it wanted a carrot
  • The post box by the pub, covered in ivy
  • Main road going down the dip to South Woodham Ferrers. It has to come up and over the hill before reaching SWF
