California
These images were captured on the first part of a holiday in California which started in San Diego and ended north of San Francisco.
The seaport village at San Diego at sun set provided the setting for image 357. Here we see a clapperboard building, now a restaurant, built over the water.
We felt it was most important to get a sense of what life was like in California the 19th century, therefore we went to the old town area at San Diego which was well worth seeing. Image 402 shows us a horse drawn buggy outside a typical hacienda.
Point Loma is a promontory that wraps itself around Coronado Island at San Diego, most importantly, you can see the whole of the city from its heights. Image 105 shows us the long road down to the US Coast Guard Station and the attractive palm trees that surround it. Besides the palm trees you have the ever present Pacific Ocean
The final images here are captured on the journey up highway one towards San Francisco with a diversion on to highway 154.
We were heading for Los Olivos on highway 154 and passed Lake Cachuma in the evening. Because it was such a great view, we went back the next day to capture this image (image 003)
Highway one is a splendid drive. You pass seals basking in the sun and there are lots of twists and turns. There at places where the mountains reach down to the clear blue sea as can be seen in image 069
The coastal mist is a strange phenomenon too. It hovers above the edge of the shore and in places you can see both below and above it. See images 078 and 090
