About Mike
As part of a process of winding down to retire Mike developed his interests in Photography and Horticulture by undertaking training programmes at Writtle University College in Chelmsford. Since completing his studies at Writtle Mike is frequently found with his camera in hand practicing his skills by capturing images of places near and far, as well as running and participating in photography competitions.
Update
As of August 2025 you will notice that this site has not been updated for about three years. I have still been capturing images wherever I go and entering them in competitions, producing calendars and showing images in exhibitions when I can. However I got involved in writing a book in 2021/2 and since then I have got completely hooked on tracing my family history. and so I have not been updating this website. I’m coming back to it now and updaign the site with more images
Winner of international competition
In January 2019 Mike won an international competition run by Photographic Angle. The theme was community spirit and Mike entered an image called “cutting the tape”. Click here to see the Photographic Angle blog on Mike’s image. It shows two ladies cutting the tape to open the new schoolroom café at the chapel in Woodham Ferrers.
Exhibitions
I have exhibited at Rayleigh Windmill right through to 2024, however the volume of people coming to see my images and their interest in them in 2024 was such that I decided not to exhibit in 2025
Recent Travels
Recently holidays and travels have taken me to Malta, Australia and New Zealand, Fuerteventura and Sicily. Galleries of images will appear shortly
Local History Projects and activity
With a keen interest in heritage and local history Mike has complete projects for Rayleigh Museum, Rayleigh Windmill and Maldon Moothall. He has also completed significant research into the “goings on” involving the shopkeepers, publicans and their customers in Woodham Ferrers and South Woodham Ferrers and in 2022 published a book called “Dodgy Scales and delivering the mails”. This has sold all but three of the 200 books published. Additionally Mike stimulated WoodhamFest a local history weekend which ran in both 2024 and 2025 in Woodham Ferrers and South Woodham Ferrers.
