Winter Storm at Ramsgate

Winter storm at Ramsgate. I went to the Kent coast in early January 2018 on a bright day. I drove along the coast to Broadstairs, Kingsgate Bay and Ramsgate. Whilst it was bright, it was incredibly windy too. These are colour images. However, the sea is stirring up the sand on the sea bed. Its moving the sand into the water which then appears to be a brownish grey. The images appear almost as if in they are captured in sepia. Wellington Crescent, fifty feet or so above the East Pier of the Harbour was the vantage point for these. It was a safe distance away from the water. First in the sequence, a swell has built up
The crest of the swell is larger
Some of it tops the sea wall
A hook shaped wave has formed over the sea wall
Its getting larger
And larger
Still larger yet
Bursting over the sea wall
And creating a massive cloud of spray

This series of amazing images are shot in a burst, one after another. They show the sea hammering the harbour wall at Ramsgate. Through the burst shots you can see the progression of the great wave. Amazingly there were people driving and walking through the wave!

I feel sure that Larry Grayson would have said “what a grey day!”
