The Croatian island of Hvar

Hvar is a two-hour boat trip from Makarska on the mainland of Croatia. The main town is also called “Hvar”. It is a bustling place with lots happening on the quayside. The waterfront buildings viewed from the quayside in image 127. The tower shown behind the waterfront is just that, a tower. It is not attached to a church! The lovely white stone and the orange roof tiles of the buildings are typical of the region and pleasing to the eye.

High above Hvar Town is the Fortress. Walking up there is quite a challenge. Image 003 shows the many steps which take you half way to the top! 

From the Fortress the views are wonderful. Image 061 shows the fortifications and an old cannon, before the view of the port of Hvar below and the small islands out to sea. A panoramic image showing the town, the islands and boats coming into port is image 075. Image 095 is a distance shot of a diagonal line of pleasure craft moored in the sparkling waters of the harbour.
