To Greenwich and back in the sun

I had a very enjoyable day on the River Thames going to Greenwich and back in the sun. It was an unusually warm week in March. Started at Westminster pier and went down to Greenwich and back.

Image 1092 shows the expanse of the River Thames at Westminster. The choppy brown water and the London Eye are clearly visible on this bright day, as is the former Greater London Council; Building.

London is always changing. Image 1094 shows the buildings on the skyline on the north bank of the Thames. The cheese grater, the walkie talkie and others are visible, some with their attendant cranes.

Much further down river into docklands, image 1139 shows us how few boats are on the Thames. The wharves and warehouses are now already converted to flats. Still there are cranes are building more flats.

Image 1143 has a police boat with its bow out of the water, charging up the Thames past the converted warehouses at New Crane Wharf in Wapping. It would be great to have a go at “driving” a boat like that!

On the return journey the sun had moved round and the warm light had picked out the lovely stonework of the Tower of London. There is no wind as you can see from the droopy flag in image 1212.

The sunlight highlights the undulating water on the Thames as we pass under the bridges on the return journey near to Westminster pier. The post office tower is also visible in image 1219
