Autumn Colours at Danbury Lakes

Five images of the autumn colours at Danbury Lakes are shown with this post. Three are from this year and two from earlier years. Information about the images is at the bottom of the post.

About the images

I was lucky with the squirrel, who posed nicely for a second on the end of a piece of stone. His tail curves round nicely and you can even see his whiskers! This year the lake has not yet reached the colours of the attached image. When I was at Danbury last week the waterfowl were also cutting up the surface so the reflections were not as nice either.

Along one of the banks there is a fascinating tree where it appears that the trunk has turned back into the water. The reflections of the tree and the banking are clear, however the movement in the water makes them a zigzag.

Two images from inside the woods follow, where the green canopy is still there, with a carpet of fallen leaves. One image has the dry stream bed running across it.

Misty autumn morning at Hyde Hall

It was a misty autumn morning at Hyde Hall last week. Many of the images have a white background created by the mist. The white mist really brings out the colour contrast of the plants in the images. The yellows reds and purples contrast better with the mist than they would with a blue sky. The close up of the purple berries of “Callicarpa bodinieri Profusion – Beauty Berry” are really striking. The depth of field technique highlights the red hot poker (Kniphofia). This is striking in close up, particularly with the red Sedum behind it as a carpet.

Its amazing to reflect how there is so much different colour at Hyde Hall as the seasons roll by.

Autumn Colours at Marks Hall, Essex

Autumn Colours at Marks Hall, Essex. The calm water in the upper lake at Marks Hall facilitates these lovely reflections on this autumn day in October 2017.

A dust cloud provided unusual weather that day by making the sun go bright orange in the afternoon, like a sunset (see additional image below). You can also see how “pink” the sky is in this image. The trees which form the backdrop to the image are just “turning” as the sap is cut off to the extremities and the leaves become golden.

Vibrant colours

The white pampas grass and the fiery red bush next to it create vibrant contrasts to the greenery above. They add the same vibrancy with their reflections in the green coloured water. These reflections draw the eye into the water to the three arches which form the overflow to control the level of the lake. The arches and the brickwork alongside them are reflected perfectly in the water. The vertical lines of the weeping willow also appear in the water.

Bushes on the path have been used to frame the image. As the dust cloud crosses the sun in different densities, changing the colour of the sun as it passes

This image was captured from the bushes on the long side of the lake. It uses the power of the superzoom lens to bring the main features of the image nearer

Autumn Colours at Marks Hall, Essex

Autumn Colours at Marks Hall. The calm water in the upper lake at Marks Hall facilitates these lovely reflections on this autumn day in October 2017.

A dust cloud provided unusual weather that day. This made the sun go bright orange in the afternoon, like a sunset (see additional image below). The backdrop to this image is the colour of the trees. The leaves have just started to “turn” golden. This occurs as the plant cuts off the sap to its extremities to cope with winter.

A sunset in mid afternoon!

I captured this image at 14:22 in the afternoon, according to the camera. Effectively we have a sunset in mid afternoon!

Great images Hyde Hall in June 2018

Great images Hyde Hall. Hyde Hall is really colourful at the moment and provides some wonderful images for garden lovers. As we only updated our image gallery of the RHS garden a few weeks ago we decided not to replace those images. We have created another gallery, Hyde Hall 2. Not very original, however there are some really good images of the plants being displayed there at the moment.

Hyde Hall. Roses on the ropes — Roses on the ropes

There is the rhapsody in blue rose, the bridge like Monet’s almost hidden by streams of colour. “Roses on the ropes” shows the rose walk where the roses are trained along the ropes. This is something than many gardeners would like to have the space to do. The pond by the house is particularly photogenic and the moment, there are three images of that from different angles.

One of the rose bays is amazingly colourful and the lavender looks really good at the moment.

I visited at lunchtime when most people were enjoying a repast at one of the restaurants. This meant that there were less people around, which made it easier to capture photographs. The gardens were glorious and coming into full bloom. The image here is of a large purple Allium, probably Allium cristophii, star of Persia. There are beds of these magnificent flowers in the parkland on the way in at Hyde Hall.

Buttercup field, Woodham Ferrers

Buttercup field, Woodham Ferrers

Buttercup field, Woodham Ferrers. Visited the Chapel at Woodham Ferrers this morning and the field next to it was a beautiful sight. There were buttercups as far as you could see and so I captured this one with my mobile phone. The flowers were two to three feet high they seemed to cover the field as far as the eye could see. Not the best image I have ever captured, as I had made the mistake of not having my camera with me. Its also a shame about the pylons in the distance. I did try to crop them out, but it removed the aspect of distance from the image.

I love the way the buttercups form up in waves across the field. The still image won’t show how, when the wind blew the waves of different coloured plants moved in the breeze. It was akin to water moving on the sea. I hope that this tells us that summer has arrived and will stay for a few months! Woodham Ferrers is in Essex, not far from Chelmsford.
