Yellow Gerbera

Shru’s macro image of a yellow Gerbera shows an intricate pattern of petals. Here the colour develops from lemon on the outside to a richer tangerine towards the centre petals. This creates a really warm feeling. The concentric rings of petals therefore draw the eye in from every angle and the central part of the flower creates a contrasting and eye-catching display.

The first scientific description of a Gerbera was made by J.D. Hooker in Curtis’s Botanical Magazine in 1889. Hooker he described the flower as “Gerbera jamesonii”, a South African species also known as Transvaal daisy or Barberton daisy. Therefore Gerbera is also commonly known as the African daisy.
