Close up of Scary red poppy

Scary Red Poppy. This a close up image of one of the large red the poppies found in our garden. It’s about two feet tall and was captured on a cloudy evening. It shows the centre of the flower with the style and stigma and the multiple stamen. The enlarged image gives the feel of a spider with hairy legs. The “spider” emerges from the poppy and its legs seem to reach out of the bowl of the flower. The centre bowl of the petals is amidst a background of solid crimson, with the characteristic black smudges. The white on the edges of the petals is the reflection of the light, which would have been greater in sunlight. Green colours in the background are the foliage of nearby plants.

Our garden has a few large red poppies each year, as well as some self-set pink ones which seem to grow like weeds.
